Are you just in town for a few days, and just want to get some
riding in? I can supply you with a guide to show you all the
best rides in town. You can have a guide to yourself (a super
domestique if you will), or the guide can handle up to 8 riders.
Prices start at $150/day and itinerary is dependent on what your
needs. Fill out the form at the bottom of the page to be
contacted.
Some suggested rides are:
Palomar Mountain: Palomar Mountain reaches a peak of
over 5500 feat and you will be starting at sea level. The main
road up the mountain has 21 switchbacks, just like the famous Alp 'Huez. There may still be a
little snow on top of the mountain, but you'll be able to ride on just
your shorts and a short sleeve jersey. We'll stop at the general
store to fuel up and then descend back down the 21 switchbacks. The
ride will be in the 60-70 mile range, but will feel more like 100+.
Easy ride up historic HWY 101: Just an easy
coastal cruise. We'll pass the famous Swami's surf break,
ride up torrey pines road, and into famous La Jolla Cove
Mount Laguna: Start in North Country San Diego, and
ride to the small town of Julian, famous for their apple pie.
From Julian we go to the top of Mt Laguna and hit an elevation of over
6000 feet. The ridge along the top of Mt Laguna is covered in
pine trees, yet you can look to the east and get an amazing view of
the Anza Borrego Desert. Total mileage for the day is
around 80-100 miles, probably the most challenging 80-100 miles you've
ever done! This ride can also be done as a shorter 45 mile
loop, that takes only about 2.5 hours. The short Laguna loop is
one of my favorite ride in all of San Diego.
Temecula: Hilly ride though the towns of Bonsall and
Temecula. Temecula is big wine country, and is also famous for
being the home of Floyd Landis. Nothing big like Laguna or Palomar,
but you can get in several thousand feet of climbing and come
home tired.
Honey Springs: Get in a 7 mile climb in east county
San Diego. Ride past the Olympic Training Center in Chula
Vista and get in some gorgeous views.
Coronado Island: Start in downtown San Diego and ride
down to the South End of Coronado Island (actually it is a peninsula).
Ride up the famous silver strand, and then take a ferry back to
downtown.
